Carl commenced his career in tax in 1979 when he joined Inland Revenue, ultimately spending 23 years there. He was a senior member of the Legal and Technical Support Group and in that position developed an extremely wide understanding of tax law. With a keen aptitude for the more complex area of tax law, Carl advised and assisted National Office with tax policy matters, was involved in writing and delivering tax training packages and was sort after by many chartered accountants and lawyers to provide technical advice.
Carl joined the Beattie Rickman tax team in 2002 which later merged to become the PricewaterhouseCooper’s Hamilton office where he was a senior tax manager. There he developed strong relationships with many chartered accountants throughout the North Island who sought his advice on a wide range of tax and business planning queries.
In November 2008 Carl joined with Julie to form Brandt Segedin LP. He continues to enjoy finding effective solutions and providing practical tax assistance to accounting practices nationally. He is sought after by accounting firms to run targeted in-house training seminars as well as writing and presenting national training courses for NZICA and Inland Revenue.
When not immersed in tax, Carl enjoys playing guitar, tramping, running and keeping up with 4 growing children.
